Dogfight release notes
Dogfight 0.9.2 — 2026-10-01
A new South Bay landscape brings Moffett Field and its surroundings into 3D, with satellite ground imagery, real terrain elevations, and the three landmark hangars. The original landscape remains available through the legacy terrain setting.
Both Moffett runways and San Jose International's two runways are available for landing, with runway markings and lights. New buildings include airport terminals and control towers, the former SGI offices at Stierlin Court, NVIDIA's Endeavor and Voyager buildings and connecting walkway, the older NVIDIA campus across San Tomas, and Shoreline Amphitheatre.
The sky now follows the sun through daylight, colorful sunrises and sunsets, and starry nights. Solar glare, shadows, and landscape lighting follow the same cycle. Satellite-guided city lighting, illuminated windows and roofs, and airport lights make the valley and its landmarks visible after dark.
Aircraft have navigation lights, flashing strobes and beacons, and landing lights. Press o to toggle exterior lights, or use the combat blackout setting. Shadow mode also supports time-of-day and fog controls.
Ground clearance now follows each aircraft's landing-gear geometry, correcting aircraft sinking into the pavement. Shadow projection, pavement depth handling, and ground texture filtering have also been improved. Landing gear and other aircraft animations update correctly in observer modes.
Bandits no longer make an extra full turn while lining up from the taxiway. Patrol departures use varied starting points and a 25% smaller radius.
Dogfight 0.9.1 — 2026-09-28
Bandits fight more effectively, with improved pursuit and attack tactics. When shot down, they respawn on the ground, taxi, take off, and return to the fight. Low on fuel or weapons, they head back to land, refuel and rearm, then take off again.
The classic help screens are back, updated with clearer spacing and larger text for readability on a 10-foot display.
The Web version now handles browser-window resizing and starts its opening audio reliably when you click or tap to begin. Its data-loading progress is also easier to follow.
Dogfight 0.9.0 — 2026-09-20
Dogfight is based on the 1997 port of SGI Flight Simulator v3.4.1 to OpenGL and Windows.1 This release updates the Windows version and adds support for Linux and Android.
The most significant addition is single-player Dogfight, where you can fight up to seven computer-controlled "bandits" with configurable piloting and dogfighting skill. You can also watch the bandits fight each other in Radar and Shadow modes.
The underlying engine remains essentially the same, with updated aircraft models and sounds, two additional aircraft (the Eurofighter Typhoon and Saab Gripen), and a new user interface and menu system. Controller support has been tested with the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X and NVIDIA SHIELD controllers. The code has been modernized with C++, 64-bit support, and OpenGL ES rendering.
My thanks to Gary Tarolli and everyone else who contributed to the development of the SGI Flight Simulator, to the FlightGear contributors for the new aircraft models and engine sounds, to Juhani Junkala (SubspaceAudio) for "Epic Boss Battle [Seamlessly Looping]," and to cynicmusic for "Battle Theme A," both shared on OpenGameArt. Licenses and source details are in Help > License.
Whether this brings you a sense of nostalgia or you're new to the game, I hope you will enjoy this updated version of a classic.
